About Southern Comfort Black 80 Proof Whiskey Liqueur

Southern Comfort dates back to the late 19th century. M.W. Heron was searching for a recipe that would make a whiskey that was less harsh, smoother, and easier to drink than your regular whiskey. He settled on a recipe that included whiskey, stone fruits, and spices, releasing his new creation in 1874. During the following decades, the whiskey liqueur reached iconic status, helped by the likes of Janis Joplin. In 2016, the Sazerac Company acquired the brand and revamped the lineup. The recipe was brought closer to its New Orleans whiskey roots, meaning that (Sazerac-owned) whiskey returned to the recipe, replacing neutral grain spirit. Two new expressions were introduced, along with the Original: the Black and a 100-proof version. Southern Comfort Black upgrades the familiar flavor profile, making for an instantly-recognizable liqueur with a balance of whiskey, stone fruit, and spice notes. Since it's bottled at a higher 80 proof, you may consider this Southern Comfort's bigger and bolder brother.
