About Southern Comfort Original Whiskey Liqueur

The history of Southern Comfort starts in the late 19th century when M.W. Heron set out to create a whiskey that would be less harsh and easier to drink. He came up with a recipe that included whiskey, stone fruits, and spices, releasing the now legendary Southern Comfort in 1874. The drink reached iconic status in the following decades, gaining renewed fame thanks to the likes of Janis Joplin. After the Sazerac Company acquired the brand in 2016, they set out to bring the recipe back to its New Orleans whiskey roots with a renewed lineup, consisting of 3 expressions: The Original, Black, and 100-proof version. The Original Southern Comfort is once again crafted with (Sazerac-owned) whiskey instead of neutral grain spirit, making for a one-of-a-kind liqueur with the familiar notes of fruit, caramel, citrus, and spices that you know and love.
