“Winter Edition” caught my attention. The spice notes made me order two bottles, one as a gift for my younger son and the other one for me. Keeping in mind a bottle of Jim Beam costs $17.00, would this be worth the price? My answer is yes it is! It’s smooth and the spice notes do come through. OK it doesn’t have the depth profile of most $50.00 bottles but I don’t mind saving $30 now and then and I’m about to order a couple more bottles. It IS 86 proof not 90 as posted. My son hasn’t opened his yet but I know his tastes at 27 years old and he’ll like it a lot.

The maple flavor is very pronounced when you open the bottle. To use this bourbon with a “mixer” is almost a must. Not bad, just overwhelming by itself

W.L. Weller Special Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Until internet "experts", flippers, speculators, and just plain folks suffering from FOMO overhyped this bourbon as the second coming of Pappy Van Winkle a few years ago, this was a solid, low proof, wheated bourbon that was well worth the $19.99 - $30 most shops charged for it. It is NOT worth the nearly $70 price for a 750ml bottle. As another reviewer mentioned, if you're looking for a solid wheated bourbon, don't fall for the hype. Maker's Mark Cask Strength can be had for around the same price point, and you get more bang (and flavor) for your buck. The Antique 107 version is a little better, but again, worth the $50 it was selling for less than a decade ago, not the nearly $200 it sells for today.

Surprising bourbon, especially for the price point. Pooukarity is going up as it’s hard to find in local stores. Usually priced between 21 and 24 dollars a handle locally, so a little surprised to see Caskers prices at approx 28. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

I fealt the same way chilepeepa did on his initial experience with GB. Not impressed and had a pallet I was not sure I liked all that much. Then I caved and bought a Guadalupe and then a Balmorea. I reall changed my mind. A great friend came by with a bottle of Cowboy. We got pretty hammered tasting all three. Then we started blending the 3 GB's we had. I knew we were snockered then. We had a blast. Too expensive to be experimenting blending your own though. LOL in conclusion yes I have come to really enjoy GB.

I honestly don't care for their blended whiskey but their straight bourbon is truly outstanding, especially for the price point. I enjoy drinking it neat, no hug, very smooth, lingering finish in a good way. I belong to a bourbon club, plan on blind tasting it down the road, quite confident this bourbon will score surprisingly well. Definitely will buy again.

I picked up a bottle of this based on a local store clerk’s recommendation. I immediately regretted not reading the label, which clearly stated “Blended Whiskey”. I have a keen sense of smell and did not detect the symphony of aromas touted in this product description. I know likes and dislikes are purely subjective so I’ll only say I found the flavor profile to be light, thin and hot. Not pleasant. If you aren’t a fan of grain neutral spirits you will not like this.

I had immediate buyers remorse when I tried to sip on this. Terrible to be honest. It redeemed itself a bit later when I mixed it with Coke. It is actually smooth in Coke. As a sipper you are 1000 percent better off with the cheaper Buffalo Trace.

The packaging for shipping was next level, I was extremely impressed by the level of care put into insuring the bottles arrived safely. There was a packaging insert on top and bottom which securely held each bottle in place and separated from touching other bottles.

I found myself in search of a new whiskey bottle. I do have to admit the name of this bottle is what first attracted me to it!
Traveller is the name of an album by Chris Stapleton. A country singer to which I have tickets for an upcoming concert.
So I thought why not let’s try out this bottle.
Now im not biased & this is my honest review. I received this bottle in less than 3 days. Purchased it Sunday afternoon & got it on a Wednesday. Packaging was great & bottle was unscathed upon delivery.
I opened the bottle & took in the aroma. It has a soft, smooth yet a little bit sweet smell to it.
I served a neat shot sized amount in a glass, and drank. When I tell you the aroma is just how it tasted! It’s the most perfect blend of smooth yet with a hint of sweetness to it. But it is not an overpowering sweetness, it is just perfect. The sweetness derives from a small caramel hint.
I’d have to say this bottle should be owned by every whiskey connoisseur out there.
If you know about Colonel E.H Taylor Jr Small Batch, a higher priced bottle yet the best I’ve had yet. This Traveller bottle is my runner up. For the taste & even better the price. It’s a win win. You win with the price tag & win with the flavor.

This was a staple early in my bourbon journey. A pleasant, low proof and inexpensive wheated bourbon. It is absolutely not worth over $200. That's insane. I wouldn't pay more than $50. I'd rather pay $45 for Maker's Mark Cask Strength, proof it down if too hot for someone. Bourbon prices are out of control.

This is a very nice whiskey. The nose is good. It feels good as you swish it around your mouth. It goes down smooth. I am just a whiskey beginner. My test is, once the first neat shot is gone, do I want another? With this one I did. It didn’t need a splash of water or an ice cube or 24 hours in the freezer. It’s lovely right out of the bottle. For me, that gets it all of the stars.

Overall super happy with this Redwood Empire. One of my favorites in their entry line. At 90 proof I find it great with the flavors you get from it and its very smooth. If you're into high proof whiskey it may not be for you as it doesn't have that heat. But in the mid $30 range I couldn't be happier with it.

One of the best Bourbons I've had. I have quite a bit of different Bourbons trying various brands but I love the Buffalo Trace selections including: Weller, Blanton's, Col.Taylor.

The nose on this bourbon is exceptional! ~green apple, smoky firewood are the notes I love the most.

It's like something from the old-times in American History. Just a great Bourbon. Getting 2 more bottles for the special guests around the fire-pit. Get this.

High Rye Mash For Spiciness Rather than Sweetness

My favorite price range for bourbon value these days is in the $40-50 range. This is a tad more expensive (from Caskers), in NYC, when you can finds it, typically discounted at best to $69. I like Smooth Ambler 13 Year Old more, but now we’re getting into $50-100 range, which is a whole different value category. Spicy rye nose, deep rich flavor, good, but not quite the smooth bold finish I only get in the higher price range. Bottled in bond proof makes it a thoroughly enjoyable sipping bourbon. Of course, it’s great in mixed drinks, but why would you want to adulterate such a well made flavor filled bourbon? Highly recommended at the price.

Interesting but not enough there there

Hi got this for my husband who loves all whiskey and burbons, for Christmas. We both thought it was good, good flavor, refined mouthfeel, but there's a hole in the pallette, if you will. If the flavor journey tell a story, it's almost as if someone tore out a chapter. Something felt like it was missing...(I wonder if that's why they call it rabbit hole, because your left searching for that missing note). Overall, tasty, but wouldn't buy again.

As a rule I do not like bourbons or whiskey, in general, that are finished in wine or port casks. They have never hit my palate correctly. However, after reading the strong reviews of this particular product, I had to try it. I wasn’t disappointed at all. High alcohol content, but not hot. The port cask added the right complexity and I stand corrected, at least for this bourbon. Spot on.

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 23 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey

Delicious if you can afford it!

I was very fortunate to afford a bottle of the 23 year old Pappy’s. I had the Pappy’s 23 re-routed to an FedEx station so I could pick it up after work and it would not sit outside or be sent to a neighbors’ home. It arrived well packed and after a celebratory toast, my brother and I enjoyed a dram of this liquid gold. Sipping it slowly, enjoying every drop, I can truly say it was a bit expensive but well worth the wait. Highly recommend it!! And my bottle came with the bottle tag and black cloth bag. Excellent product!!

I was in my local store, i explained to the man behind the counter what i did like, Jim Beam was a classic, Jameson is avalbile at every bar, Angels Envy is just fine in my cabinet, Old Forster statesman is lovely i have a recipe for french toast with old forester, Buffalo is a nice treat when you can find it. I could go on. But. He sugessted this. That it would just change my life and open my eyes if i bought this bottle of Hirsch. So I did, he was so adament, probably about early 40s so i figured he knew what he was talking about.
I tried it as a shot, i tried it on the rocks, i tried it out of the freezer, the fridge, i even tried cooking several dishes with it. This stuff ruins everything. I wouldnt even clean a wound with this stuff in the zombie Apocalypse. If you like it more power to you, but finally after 2 weeks of fighting with it i finally poured it on the ground because i didnt want my septic tank to get an upset stomach.

Worst bourbon to date.

I purchased this bottle after drinking the rye version of Kentuck Owl and absolutely loving it.
This bourbon however is the complete opposite. Absolutely undrinkable. So bad in fact, that this bottle of bourbon has become the laughing stock of my collection to all my bourbon drinking guests. I cannot give the bottle away, hands down the worst bourbon I have ever had and that's regardless of price!

Tincup Fourteener 14 Year Bourbon Whiskey

A good late night sipper

I chose this 14yr Tin Cup to celebrate an annual event. The packaging is unique and is in line with a celebration. The whiskey is good, but I feel they used too much Rocky Mountain water to cut it. At 42% it is on the lower end of the scale for me as I like a hotter drink. That being said, it was right in line with what was necessary as we were dehydrated and tired at 2 a.m. when we were sitting down to taste the two whiskeys we brought. Having the lower proof and being smooth to drink so late at night was a nice (though not normal for me) touch. I would/may buy again at the price I paid, It was sixty-eight doll hairs.

Four Roses Small Batch Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Sorry to rain on the FR parade

I know a lot of people out there are Four Roses fans. I like the Single Barrell and a few of the sweeter mashbills too. The Small Batch Select is a blend of 6 of the mashbills, and I found it uninspiring, not very tasty, and just disappointing. Sure there's cinnamon, apple, baking spice but for 104 proof, the proof doesn't bring with it any complexity, any additional flavor. It drinks hotter than it is (I'd guess 110-116 proof). It's not a nice sipper. I'd rather get the Single Barrel. In this case less is more.

Had my doubts about a NY bourbon but this young bourbon changed my mind. It's a mix of two mashbills (part MGP) a 60% corn and a 75% corn. The palate is warm, inviting, with vanilla, apple, light carmel, rye spice, oak. The vanilla and caramel are nice at 94 proof. This is a very nice daily sipper and for the price, it beats many bigger names (*cough* Four Roses Small Batch Select, *cough*) in palate, price and satisfaction.

The story behind it is just as impressive, but truly, this an amazing bourbon -- deep rich flavor or sweet roasted corn and honey, and a texture that is downright velvety.
Just a totally awesome bourbon and one of the very few in that price range truly worth the expense.

I ordered this hoping for a hint of charred maple. Every other Knob Creek offering I've tasted has been great - one of my favorite brands. The "Smoked Maple" was a tremendous disappointment. If I wanted maple syrup in my bourbon I'd pour maple syrup in my bourbon. I should have realized that this is 90 proof instead of the typical 100...5% of it must be the syrup. Given the high quality of all their other stuff, I can't believe this ever made it onto the market.

As far as the nose and pallet, seems like a younger bourbon for sure....the spectrum of notes is muted more compared to what you would find in an ECBP or Larceny BP. Still, they are there and at this price, definitely a good buy for those wanting a wide range of different bourbons to have readily available in the man cave!

With the name I expected some hints of Japanese distilling technique, but that ruined the bourbon part fire me and vice versa.

It didn't taste like bourbon to me - more like a blend of Japanese and Irish with nuttiness added- and there are better offerings of those at this price as well in my opinion.

At this price point try the calumet 15. Much more balanced with all the things you love in a great bourbon - caramel, vanilla, and cherry without the cough syrup vibe that some do.

Wasn't A Whiskey Drinker Until Now

I've never been a whiskey drinker except for the occasional mixed drink (my preferred mixed drink is (was) Jack Daniels and Ginger Ale. I was introduced to Buffalo Trace while visiting my brother in Tennessee. On the way home to Ohio, a friend asked me if I could find a certain brand of Whiskey. We stopped at Indian Hills Wine & Spirits in Pikeville, Ky. The fine gentlement working there introduced me to Buffalo Trace. They hyped it up so much I bought two bottles to take home. When we got home, I opened a bottle, boured a bit, let it breath and then tried it. Very nice. I'm not a bourbon connoisseur; all I really know is Jack Daniels and a few other popular brands. Buffalo Trace has changed my tasted for bourbon whiskey. I really enjoy drinking buffalo trace and ginger ale (I only use Bundaberg ginger beer). Recently, I was at a local bar and orderd a Jack and Ginger Ale since we do not have Buffalo Trace here in northern Ohio. WOW! I can't believe the difference Buffalo Trace makes when compared to Jack Daniels (Old #7). I had a 1.5 litre bottle of Jack Daniels that I've had since by son and daughter-in-laws wedding three years ago. I just gave it back to them! I ordered a case of BT from here at Caskers. Shipping was slow but everything arrived in-tact. Glad I found an online liquour store to purchase Buffalo Trace! The price here is better than it was at the liqour store in Kentucky as well. I'll be back! :-)

I’m an avid whiskey fan. Bourbon, Scotch, Irish. I enjoy quality in just about everything. Imagine my disappointment when the whisky distilled just down the street from me was one one of the worst I’ve ever tried. I was actually angry because it is priced the same as some of the best whisky in the world. It has been aged for under a year and is very apparent on the palette although I can’t see that the new make they use was worth putting in the barrel in the first place. It tastes somewhat like tepid water that has been sitting in a wooden cup for a day. Severely dissatisfied.

Freeland Spirits Bourbon Whiskey

I was baffled there wasn't a poor review of this whiskey that existed so I really felt compelled to keep people from buying this as a gift. I hear their Gin is pretty decent but this whiskey is hot and unbalanced. It's described as having a clove back-bone, but really, the pinot barrel made the juice a bit too cloying and ethanol-forward. Acrid, sour, spicy, and unbalanced, and unpalatable. They may have just cut the tails of the run weird on the batch that I received which may be a one-off because my suspicion is it came out at cask-stregnth and not 46%. That being said, I cut it with a lot of water to try to save the dram and it was still undrinkable.

Reminds me of an Irish whiskey which would make sense from a distillery that started with a Gin focus. The age (3years) isn't too bad, but Freeland's methodology needs a lot of rehashing or barrels need some serious rectification to bring more balance to this bottle and we may honestly throw it away.

I'm not one to refrigerate my bourbon, preferring a room temperature shot from time to time. The first notes of Noah's were wonderful. There was a soft heat and the fruity notes were lovely. As time went on and we got closer to the bottom of the bottle, it heated. Harshly. We are not aficionados and perhaps didn't treat this whiskey quite right, but that last shot was really tough. I might take to refrigerating in the future ...

This is the best whiskey I have tasted. Much better than Buffalo Trace which is my favorite because of taste and price. Eagle Rare occasionally comes to the liquor stores in Pennsylvania but it's immediately sold out. The price is around $50 which I believe should be the price for this whiskey. I purchased it just to try it since I couldn't get it from my liquor store. I normally don't spend more than $60 for a bottle.

Nose has a prominent caramel and vanilla forwardness and presences of spicy cinnamon rye grains.
Palate evolves with the caramel / vanilla flavors and hints of orange and cinnamon as well.
Finish is medium but is very nice.

I highly recommend this bourbon as a bottle to include in one’s collection.

A smooth solid expression. No age statement but I believe it to be in the 8 year range. I drink it neat at room temperature after allowing it to breathe for about 5 mins. Recommend.

I am a fan of the original so I was wondering about this offering. I was not disappointed. I don't have a sophisticated palate but the flavors represented themselves so fully and distinctly that I felt like I leveled up. No odd flavors or top notes. Just good leathery caramel flavor without being overly sweet. Finishes slightly peppery but very clean. I have to stop myself from drinking more. Guess I'll have to keep 2 on deck just in case!

The scent coming off the glass is that of a seven day old red wine blend that has started to sour. I found the body lacking flavor with the finish being more fumey than warm. Very strong nose of spice and charcoal, a firm flavor with subtle hints of vanilla and caramel. Love the long finish. I shared the Blood Oath with the neighbors - but not the Michters.

I was disappointed in the quality of this bourbon. On its own, the bourbon lacked depth. The character which was all smokiness and spice, without any pleasing sweetness or caramel to balance. It worked ok in a cocktail, but for the price I'm generally not looking to mix my bourbon.

At this price the experience with the spirit is a steal.

Here is whiskey for the pure corn mash bill lover. It is rich and sweet, the definition of what a pure corn mash can yield, yet still be a fine sipping whiskey and not a novelty. In Pennsylvania, we have a similar product, McLaughlin 3799 and Baby Barrel, which may not be blue, but is also worthy of distinction if you even get here, If not, this Texas product is worth the investment, and makes for a fine sip. Not overly complex, but a fun drink...and not for mixing.

I drink my Bourbon on the rocks. First sip it hit me. Not the buzz but the after-taste of saddle leather. I thought "is this a subliminal trick on my mind due to the label? Am I fooling myself?". And there it was last mentioned in the tasting notes. I'd say it should have been mentioned first because there is a galloping taste of saddle leather as if it were straight off a sweaty mares back. I made due and kicked back watchin' "Silverado" and sipped away. I could of sworn I was back in the wild west myself.

It's Name says it all

The big distillery's namesake has the typical low-rye KY Bourbon nose of light, cinnamon spice, vanillas, caramels, and maybe a bite of apple. Soft, gentle, sweet corn hits the palate and finishes with more gentle notes of spice. Good value and great everyday sipper at 90 proof (when you can find it locally). I can always find it at Caskers, but at the local state controlled liqour store - not so much.

My first introduction to bourbon trace

So, part of me just wants to share my experience but I'll give a quick summary here.

This stuff was like an out of body experience... no burn. It was like drinking pure gold. Rich, flavorful without overpowering and it delivered all the way down. Each sip & swallow was so satisfying a single drop was satiating.

I had no idea what I was drinking at first, the guy even let me pour my own glass and I always pour doubles. After my first sip... I slowed way down. I spent the next 30 minutes putting drop by drop on lips trying to make it last... it was amazing.

So amazing that I had to go and look it up and research the history. This guy lives next door and I often consider ways to give him a win just so I can sneak over and celebrate with some more pappy's.

New To The Bourbon World

I’ve recently become interested in bourbons and began reading as much as I could about the various brands. The Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, KY produces some of the worlds best bourbons. Expressions like Pappy Van Winkle, W.L. Weller, Blanton’s. Eagle Rare, to name just a few. Buffalo Trace is their flagship expression and had gotten very good reviews. As the other reviewer pointed out, Buffalo Trace had become hard to get here in PA. Our State Liquor Stores( yes we still have State control of liquor here in PA) were completely sold out and I knew I wanted to try some. So I placed an order with Caskers. The bottle arrived well packed and in short order. After trying several other brands and then the Buffalo Trace, I can tell you that this bourbon is currently my favorite to sip neat or on the rocks. It is an exceptionally smooth bourbon. If you haven’t yet, give this a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Being a retired SF soldier, I mainly purchased this bourbon to support the brotherhood of Green Berets... I was in NYC training with FDNY and in the Trade Center just a week prior to the Historic day... These guys were there in the beginning and their bottle molds are made of Trade Center steel... The bourbon is fairly smooth finish I use it mainly in an Old Fashioned, though I can enjoy it straight or on the rocks.... I would recommend to anyone.... De oppresso liber!!!!!

Maybe worth $25? I do not understand how it has won any awards. I personally did not enjoy it. Save some money and buy Makers 46 at that price. Not a 5 star beverage. Maybe 3 star.

Nice to have a way to try three expressions. I bought this for an online class. The Rye is really smooth for being a 100% Rye, also an amazing floral aroma. I was expecting more heat but it was really tame and enjoyable by itself and I have used it for some great cocktails as well. The Bourbon is not like any other Bourbon I have tried. Very smooth again and it is a higher proof Bourbon than I am used to drinking. Very tasty and a toasted candied almonds flavor is lasted really long. The Four Grain is really complex and a bit more in the direction of a malt whiskey, I would use this for sipping for sure.

I have been chasing Van Winkle bourbons for about 5 years. in May of 2019, while on a business trip in Austin TX, I had the occasion to finally taste one of my long sought after bourbons. it was a 12yr old Van Winkle
Special Reserve. I had it neat with 3 drop of water; it smooth, mellow in flavor, did not have hard alcohol smell. It was simply wonderful and worth a penny of the $92 I paid for the shot. Fast forward to the present. I've been trying to find a reasonably priced bottle of Pappy Van Winkle from 10 to 15 years old without luck. i saw what I considered a reasonable offer for 10year old Old Rip Van Winkle.
What a disappointment,especially at the price point I bought at. When I opened the bottle, it had the harsh smell of moonshine alcohol. When I poured it straight Neat, no water drops, the bite was hard, the taste was like woody nutmeg and rye, it had a hell of a burn. Latter I tried, Old Rip on the rocks and it was smoother. My feeling is I shouldn't have to ice down a good bourbon. I'll not buy this year of OLD Rip again. i'll fall back to a 12 year Old Special Reserve, keep looking for a Pappy and continue to enjoy Jerfferson's Ocean 15 and 17 at a tenth of the price point.

I reviewed it before, finding it medicinal and bitter. It opened up after the neck pour, and I got the fruit notes. It does have vanilla and oak but still in all not $150 worth. Of course water helps, but. Ok do not see the hype.

If you can find BT in North Carolina or South Carolina, it's price gouged at more than double MSRP. Caskers has BT at a fair price and mostly always available. However, the same can't be said about Buffalo Trace's other bourbons. For instance, how is Wellers now $90+ a bottle?!?! It was $25 pre pandemic. Same for Blantons, which is now $250+ when it was $75. I understand cost/demand economics, but this type of gouging can hurt a brand longterm. Buffalo Trace seems to be the only distillery with significant gouging.

If you get an opportunity to purchase any of the Willetts hard to find 4/6 yr old Bourbons or their Rye at the Willetts suggested retail price count your blessing and buy them otherwise be prepared to float a loan on the secondary market. So far the Willetts availability exception is their Pot Still Reserve which comes in a unique Pot Still shaped bottle generally at a fair price. Try any of their expressions and I think 99.5% of you will be well satisfied with taste and Willetts will help you forget Old Pappy. In conclusion, Caskers is a reliable supplier offering competitive product and shipping prices as well as hard to find expressions.

I am a big fan of this one. It has it all....Dark fruits- lots of cherry. Dried raisins and apricots, fine old pipe tobacco and old well worn saddle leather (yeah, I used to ride horses). Just the right Kentucky "hug," easily tamed by a few drops of water, or not. Quality and the full better bourbon experience at a sensible price. Cheers.

Interesting and Unique Bourbon from New York

There is a note of cherry wood embers on the nose. Nice combination of oak and some dried fruit sweetness gives way to spice on the finish. It is a NY bottling...I like Hudson Baby bottle from NY, so gave this a try...It is diametrically different, but likewise enjoyable. a bit pricey, but not overly so. Interesting drink worthy of a sip (with a few water drops) on a cold day.

Hate to be a naysayer, but....

Perhaps I have a one-off bottle, delivered December 29 2020. The nose is almost one dimensional, with a sour note that is there on the taste as well: I get is a strange, almost medicinal, flavor, like a synthetic vanilla extract. There is also bitterness, like drinking Campari. The Weller line is hard to get in PA State LCB stores, so I sprang for this pricing just to see what it was like....sorry, but I would not purchase this one again.

on the nose is cherry licorice, blueberry, blue cotton candy, dark chocolate and cherry, bit of lemon grass. on the tongue is vanilla cream, cherry, and dark chocolate! A bit of barrel char and love the peppers! Drop of water brings out the cherry cream goodness. The price is a little high, but the juice is good!

Seemed like a safe bet. Country stars collaborating to make a decent bourbon? Right on. Upon uncorking the, my nose was greeted with notes of nothing except weak alcohol. No odor. Perhaps I have COVID, but I could smell my farts this morning. I could not smell anything from this. I figured that maybe that means its super smooth, right? Well it is, because there's no flavor to it. If I really close my eyes, I can kind of taste what I would imagine to be boot leather? This stuff just isn't good. The Florida Georgia Line duo and Jason Aldean clearly don't understand good whiskey. Yikes. Go back to singing guys, you're way better at that.

If you like barrel proof bourbon, this is great stuff for the price. Tons of caramel, spice and graham cracker with a toasted marshmallow finish. This and EC barrel proof are my 2 favorite lower price barrel proofs right now. Try them both neat and with ice as I think the flavors are greatly dulled with ice.

My boyfriend is the bourbon drinker. Usually has a glass a night and likes trying different bourbons and has had a majority of those under $50. First purchase on Caskers was this one as it has nice notes he is familiar with and to have a treat for his 30th birthday.
He had three glasses on his birthday and as of now, he has a tiny bit left for a glass of two. He really enjoyed it.

Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10 Year - 4.0Dried apricot and chili pepper fill the palate with a sweet warm heat although, spices and wood notes are noticiable, the finish provides familiar vanilla and caramel flavors to round the profile. Tail is thin and short.

In 1837, Henry McKenna emigrated from Ireland to the United States. After spending nearly two decades as a farmer in Kentucky, McKenna founded an eponymous distillery in 1855. At the time, McKenna focused on the production of wheat whiskey (the only crop he was harvesting at the time) and was able to distill enough whiskey to fill one barrel each day. As word of McKenna's high-quality whiskey spread, McKenna was able to triple his distillation capacity, and began experimenting with the production of bourbon. Following his death in 1893, McKenna's three sons — Daniel, Stafford and James — began operating the business.

Today, Henry McKenna Single Barrel 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey honors the rich family tradition and pioneering spirit of the McKenna family. The bourbon, which is made from a mash of primarily corn, is the only extra-aged bottled-in-bond single barrel bourbon available today. Pursuant to the Bottled-In-Bond Act of 1897 (27 C.F.R. 5.21), any spirit labeled as "Bonded" or "Bottled-in-Bond" must be the product of one distiller at one distillery during one distillation season. In addition, the Act requires that bonded spirits be aged in a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof.

Henry McKenna Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey is matured for a minimum of forty Kentucky seasons (ten years) before each bottle is filled and labeled with its batch and bottle number. Since each bottle of McKenna's Single Barrel Bourbon is bottled from a single cask rather than being crafted from a batch of casks, however, each bottle is slightly different and entirely interesting.

Excellent, Different Finished Bourbon

This is an excellent Bourbon in my opinion - though not terribly Bourbon "like" in its flavor provide. This is due to the wine and sherry cask finish hiding some of the typical flavors of Bourbon.

With that in mind, the nose is a wonderful part of why I love this Bourbon. In a word fantastic. I'm not one to list a bunch of things like Vanilla, blah, blah, blah. It's fine if that is your thing - it's not mine. You will love nosing his Bourbon as you drink it.

It also has an above average complexity and finish.

Really worth trying, and keeping on hand for when you want something different but good.

It’s not bad for the price, but whatever you do don’t include it in a multiple bottle tasting. I did this and served it after a wheater and a four grain bourbon and the raw wood from the barrel (or staves) is so predominant that everyone stated that it was like chewing on a fresh cut oak toothpick that you cut from a freshly cut tree. It’s best served as a solo offering and let it breathe for about 15-20 minutes before pouring or decant and serve.

A great, little-known (and not easy to find) bourbon. This review is based on a neat pour (i.e., no ice, water, mixer, etc.). There is a moment of heat at the front with smoke and cinnamon and then it quickly “cools” into a smooth vanilla and leather. The longer it sat in the glass, opening up to the air, the more mellow it became — an excellent sipper. Very reminiscent of Makers 46. This is a recommended buy for the money. You won’t be disappointed.

This definitely has a Bourbon taste and smoothness with good nose appeal. Slight caramel and sweetness you come to expect from a traditional Bourbon. It is my opinion that most Bourbons that are above the 80 proof mark are usual what the distiller would like to show as his finer work and this is true with Breaker as well, I just find it difficult to call Bourbon produced outside of Kentucky Bourbon, we can refer t it as Bourbon-esque or Bourbon-ish. Overall I would consider repurchasing this again but at $50+ there are others I would like to experience first.

Easy-sipping bourbon at a great price

This has been my go-to bourbon recently. The sherry oak finish definitely gives it some unique dried fruit notes and there is also a mellow oakiness to it. I normally drink it with a big ice cube or a small splash of water, but I've also tried it in an old fashioned and it works well. Great value at a sub-$40 price. Also nice to know Noble Oak supports reforestation with a tree being planted for every bottle.

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Buffalo Trace is a solid sipper for newbies and bourbonites alike. For a lower priced bourbon it provides a lot of flavor and a finish expected of higher priced bourbons. The nose is sweet and inviting, with citrus, honey and/or vanilla flavors plus a bit of oakiness. The palate continues the sweetness from the nose and then adds more oak and a spice shot at the finish. The finish is about mid-length as it provides a decent mouth coating and flavors continue to evolve over time. Overall a very good bourbon for the price.

Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Eagle Trace is great pour at a good price. Smooth for those who don't like much spice or who are newer to bourbon. It is good neat, with ice, with a few drops of water and as a mixer. On the nose there is a honey, vanilla sweetness; some citrus and a little oak and spice in the background. The palate presents a early sweet honey and/or vanilla along with some oak and a hint of spice. The flavors are subtle and don't last too long as it has a short to medium finish. Again, the flavors are subtle so this is a good bourbon for newbies and those looking for a smooth sip instead of a flavor bomb. Good stuff overall for the price.

I received a sample bottle of this in a shipment today. For reference, in that shipment was a bottle of Jameson Black Barrel, High West Double Rye, High West Rendezvous, Buffalo Trace, and a bottle of Macallan double cask 12 years. The Jameson Black Barrel, out of all of these, is my favorite. So of course, a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey infused with banana is right up my alley.
I tried it, and I must say, that it is the finest banana flavored whiskey I have ever had. Also the only one, but still true. If I ever wake up 25 years younger, still with a taste for mountain dew, I will certainly choose this over 99 bananas any day of the week. Well, maybe not.
I understand, from an economics side, why companies would flavor alcohols like this. I noticed it with vodkas, then rums. These are meant for younger people, with a higher tolerance for candy. These are not for me. If you make a whiskey (or a vodka or rum) that would be improved by adding flavors used to make jolly ranchers, I don't want any. If I want a jolly rancher, I'll have one. If I want a whiskey, I'll not be reaching for this.

Banana nose and just a lingering sweet aftertaste. Very little bite. I can’t anything but banana but my palette just doesn’t like this type of bourbon. Banana Infused Indeed!

I received a surprise mini-bottle sample of this from Caskers upon receipt of my last bourbon order. Despite my extreme dislike of anything banana, I couldn't let this go to waste. So I took this sample of Howler Head Banana Infused Kentucky Straight Bourbon, 40% ABV, sucked it up and gave it a taste test. Surprise! Mikey Likes it! The nose had a definite sweet banana bread aroma going for it with a little spice. The taste was just like the nose; very sweet, syrupy banana-crazy flavor -- but in a good way. It was like I imagine Bananas Foster dessert in a glass would taste like. It was more like an after dinner liqueur than a run of the mill bourbon -- waaay too easy to drink. And remember, I don't like bananas! It left a long sweet finish with only a hint of spice to it -- possibly cinnamon. Other flavors one expects of bourbon are missing or hidden by the banana flavor though. But, If I liked bananas and/or was a beginner bourbon enthusiast, and wanted a sweeter than usual, banana bourbon experience, I would seek this out wherever it may be. Might be real good as a mixer in some tropical drinks also.

I love the single barrel and I like the small batch though it is not my go to. I was unable to get this where I live and was curious so Caskers came through. I like it way better than the small batch, it seems close to the single barrel profile which is crazy as it uses 6 of the recipes in the mixing. I enjoy this but I can get the SB for less locally.

Great aroma when I first opened the bottle, a nice mix of banana and whiskey, smelled great! On the rocks you get a good banana flavor and a fair amount of whiskey at first and then you get the taste of the good quality of the whiskey as you get just enough burn to know what your drinking. If I were to make this whiskey I might add just a touch more banana to make it linger a little longer. If I had anything negative to say it would be that there is a little aftertaste that's not whiskey or banana related that's not appealing.

After getting addicted to Blanton’s we learned that it’s almost impossible to find. While visiting the Buffalo Trace distillery last year, we learned that Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare and Blanton’s are all made from the same mash bill; someone with a more developed palate than mine decides which barrel becomes which product. All three are delightful with varying levels of sophistication. Buffalo Trace is rationed here in NC, so I was thrilled to find it fairly priced at Caskers. Yay!

It seems that the name, "Bourbon," has always been synonymous for a sharp, biting whiskey. Not this. It never burns and there are overtones of sweetness on the palate. This is a real pleasure to drink and well worth a try.

A spiced whiskey that respects the whiskey itself

This is simply a phenomenal dram. It is, literally, the best whiskey to drink when snowbound in a cabin, in front of a fireplace on a rainy night, or in the middle of winter hike, or when out cross country skiing. The flavors are superb, yet the distiller clearly respects the whisky itself, Cinnamon, allspice, clove - it's like drinking Thanksgiving and Christmas all at once, yet never forgetting you are enjoying some of America's best whiskey. The distillers and blenders at Breckenridge have outdone themselves. Warmth from the first sniff, to the last drop. Amazing.

I picked up a bottle at my local store out of curiosity b/c the markdown from its SRP of $39.99 was so huge, and I was laughing at it for its cheapness and silly tie-in when the bourbonmeister of the store whispered and aside to me that its actually from the Bulleit distillers, so for the low price, I bought a bottle. It was fantastic! Suprisingly smooth and full of good, mellow sweet roasted corn flavor. I went back the next day and bought 6 more bottles. Then after a week of realizing I'd never be able to snag such a deal again, I bought an entire case.
Is it Noah's Mill or Garrison Bros.? No; but it's a really damn good bourbon for an insanely good price.

FEW Cold Cut Bourbon Whiskey

I had the special edition Few Reserve Whiskey and was pleasantly surprised. It was smooth and even on the palette. I had tasted Few’s regular Whiskey before and was neither impressed nor disappointed- just thought it was another whiskey. It blended in with the rest, nothing jumped out about it.
However, when I had their special reserve whiskey release it was noticeably better. I recommend spending the extra money and trying it out.

It is very rare I even tell people about the bourbon I buy and drink and hopefully this does not backfire on me. If I had one word to describe this bourbon it would be "ORGASMIC". I did not expect what was going to happen to me when I took a sip of this bourbon, it was truly an orgasmic experience. I poured 3 fingers and figured that it would last me the evening being the 120+ proof bottle. I then sat down in my leather recliner, kicked my feet up, opened the laptop and started to review the dailly news. With the state of current news in the U.S. of course it did not take long to get a tad bit irritated so I grabbed my glass a little book, chapter 3 took a sniff(it smelled pretty good) to a small sip(being 120+ proof) I did not want to burn my throat or anything. As soon as it hit my lips my mouth exploded in all kinds of flavors, the closely cut hairs on the back of my neck(retired military and never got use to long hair) stood up and I swear to god a rush of endorphines raced through my body. I swear to all that is good if I did not actually know what a climax was I would swear that I just had one. I have been drinking bourbon(some great, some terrible but mostly descent) for 31 years. From Pappys to Jim Beam black label this is the first and only time I have experienced this kind of reaction to drinking a bourbon. Needless to say what was suppose to be 1 3 finger drink for the evening turned out to be 1/3 of the bottle. I went to bed feeling awesome and woke up feeling even better. Since I did not have to work when I woke up I had to try another glass just to make sure it was as good as the night before. Yes it was just as good and now everyday day I look at that 1/2 empty bottle remembering just how good it was and forcing myself not to open it up and save it for a special occasion or at least until my local liquor store gets in some more so I can purchase a few back up bottles.

Black Dirt Bourbon

This review is for the single barrel aged 4 years that I purchased. The profile is very robust with cereal flavoring throughout. It’s got a good toasty profile as well. The bourbon is on the less sweet side than other commercial bourbons that I’ve had. It’s finished off with a spicy smoked charcoal flavor. At 114 proof it leaves a nice burn as you swallow. A bit pricey for a single barrel but it is quite a nice spirit.

Wow. This Bourbon runs the whole gammet of senses. When I first pulled the cork, almost immediatly could smell that sweet, spicey bourbon. Poured it into a glass and loved the deep, dark amber color. First taste was caramel, vanilla and a hint of oak. As it worked it's way towards the back of my toungue I tasted the deep charred oak. The finish was long with a nice mixture between sweet and spice. Warmed the tummy! Great, Great bourbon. A little spendy, but glad I paid for admission.

Breaker Port Barrel Finish Bourbon Whiskey

Received as a gift this weekend. The bold ruby coloring is definitely a result of the port barrels it’s stored in. A bit pricey, but for a craft bourbon, it’s well within the range. Maple and brown sugar are big flavors as well as the cinnamon. It does have a spicy sweetness to it, which was a nice surprise. Overall a very good bourbon. Drink it neat and mixing this one would ruin everything that makes it.

Slightly Different, Slightly Good

To me, bourbon is sweet, that's what makes it bourbon instead of rye. With the addition of mesquite to this bourbon, it takes on a less sweet profile. I'm no expert taster, so I don't know how to explain the flavor. It's okay, but there's a tinge of something that always has me cutting this one with a bit of water — not a bad drink, not a bad price and not a bad bourbon, just different.

Coppersea Excelsior Bourbon Whisky

This is a bourbon that is unlike any other bourbon that I have tried. It is similarly unique to Hudson's baby bourbon, however it is unique and its own right of thick Rich Oaky sweet sense with corn and well, sugar. Now this is not a sugary whiskey however that New York corn and that new Oak shine through in the reverberation of the flavors that last from the moment the beverage hits your tongue until a minute or two later when the finish slowly dissipates. This is by far one of my favorite bourbon whiskeys to enjoy. If I were to cite my three favorite bourbon whiskeys out of New York it would be Hudson (literally any) then Coppersea and lastly Mellow Corn. Absolutely a wonderful, wonderful unique bourbon whiskey. This is now a staple in my bar cart of over 19 variations of Scotch, Bourbon and Whiskey.

Booker's Small Batch Cask Strength Bourbon Whiskey

A really GOOD bourbon

I don't know all the lingo that everybody uses with tasting notes, but I will say this... I went to a whiskey bar on a Groupon recommendation and had 37 different Whiskey's over. Of 4 hours with lots of water in between and I walked out with an extensive list and notes of what I felt were some of the best whiskeys and Bourbons to try for my home collection and boogers was one of the only ones that I remembered. Now that I have the bottle at home I can say that without a doubt it is one of my favorite go-to Bourbons in addition to Angel's Envy and four roses. Booker's Cask bourbon is a heavy and hot bourbon as a sipper it is quite fantastic. I will add a dash of cool water not more than a third of an ounce making this bourbon one of the best Bourbons I've ever had. And yes I know it's from Jim Beam and I've never had Jack Daniels or Jim Beam Bourbon in my collection but this one is worth it. It is sweet, it is hot, it is vanilla, it is Oaky, it is Carmel, it is almost like a good cigar malt scotch without the $170 price. If you see this, buy it. Just shut up and buy it he will not be disappointed.

I've become a huge fan of this Bourbon over the past several years. I stumbled across the small batch about 5 years ago and fell in love.
