Founder Joe Beatrice and the team at Barrell Craft Spirits have made an art out of seeking exceptional barrels and blending them into unique cask-strength expressions. While this usually involves whiskey, other spirits aren't out of the question ― rum especially. This expression is a part of their Private Release Series, a project of small-scale blending that allows for extreme precision. J657 Rum is centered around Jamaican rum that makes up 65% of the final blend, the rest being Barbados & Guyana rum, as well as a Martinique rhum agricôle. The blend is then married in a single cask, which was an Indiana rye whiskey cask in this case. The rum is bottled at a cask strength of 131.64 proof.

About Rum
Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.
We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.
It's a bold, fruity, and tropical rum with a sweet and funky nose. Look for notes of tropical fruit, hogo, and spice, with the notes lingering through the powerful finish.
