About Blackened Cask Strength Whiskey

For its launch in 2018, Sweet Amber Distilling Co. teamed up with the legendary whiskey distiller Dave Pickerell and heavy metal icons Metallica. They released Blackened ― a blend of the finest North American bourbons and ryes. It's the unique finishing process that made Blackened a real heavy metal whiskey. Long-time Metallica collaborators ― the innovating sound-engineering wizards Meyer Sound ― created a special subwoofer that would transfer vibrations efficiently through the casks. They dubbed this proprietary process Black Noise, trademarked it, then proceeded to play tracks by Metallica ― chosen specifically for each batch by the band themselves ― to the whiskey, the vibration helping the liquid seep deeper into the wood and enhancing the flavor. Blackened Cask Strength is that same whiskey, bottled without chill filtration at a cask strength that hovers around 122 proof. "I absolutely love cask strength whiskey. You are drinking whiskey in its purest form; unfiltered, uncut and born straight from the barrel with one unapologetic purpose - to be savored," says Blackened Master Distiller and Blender Rob Dietrich. The bolder spirit is released in limited quantities.

About Blackened

Both masters in their respective fields, Metallica, the heavy metal band, and the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, considered the founding father of craft distilling, joined forces and presented to the world Blackened whiskey. Sharing their creative fire, they crafted an unconventional whiskey, made with a process like no other. Dave Pickerell was interested in how sound could affect substances on a molecular level.

About American Whiskey

There are two main representatives of the American whiskey family, bourbon, and rye, but some other spirits don't fall into those two strictly regulated categories.

There's equally strictly regulated American single malt, made from 100% malted barley, Tennessee whiskey, essentially bourbon filtered through maple charcoal and aged in new charred oak barrels.

And then there's moonshine, a high proof (150- 170 proof) distilled spirit mainly made out of corn which gained popularity during the prohibition.

Check out our impressive selection of American single malts, or find your new favorite in our rich whisk(e)y selection, and get familiarized with what the world has to offer.

The nose is rich with oats, vanilla, fig, as well as toffee, and maple sweetness. The caramel, vanilla, and dark sugar are joined by walnut and a touch of dried chili. The finish is pleasantly spicy with cinnamon.
