This limited-edition expression starts with rye whiskeys aged between 5 and 8 years. The whiskey ― named after Metallica's sophomore album ― then gets the Black Noise treatment. While being finished in Madeira and Caribbean rum casks, music from the Ride the Lightning album is played to the liquid, the vibrations transferring through the casks.

About Blackened Rye The Lightning Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

Rye the Lightning is a limited-edition Kentucky straight rye whiskey that was double-cask finished in Madeira and Caribbean rum casks. The blend of ryes aged between 5 and 8 years was carefully crafted by Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich and is named after Metallica's sophomore album Ride the Lightning. The whiskey is then subjected to the proprietary process dubbed Black Noise. Working with Metallica and their long-time collaborators ― the innovating sound-engineering wizards Meyer Sound ― they created a special subwoofer that transfers vibrations efficiently through the casks. The setlist was from Orion Music + More festival, which was the only time the band has ever played the entire album live, albeit in reverse track order, and it was played to the whiskey. Expect tasty flavors of clover honey, mint, corn husk, walnut, cinnamon, and sugarcane. Savor neat, on the rocks, or by mixing it up in tasty cocktails.

About Blackened

Both masters in their respective fields, Metallica, the heavy metal band, and the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, considered the founding father of craft distilling, joined forces and presented to the world Blackened whiskey. Sharing their creative fire, they crafted an unconventional whiskey, made with a process like no other. Dave Pickerell was interested in how sound could affect substances on a molecular level.

They teamed up with Metallica and their long-time collaborators ― the innovating sound-engineering wizards Meyer Sound ― to create a special subwoofer that would transfer vibrations efficiently through the casks. They dubbed this proprietary process Black Noise, trademarked it, then proceeded to play tracks by Metallica ― chosen specifically for each batch by the band themselves ― to the whiskey.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.

With a balance of sweet and savory notes, this rye whiskey has aromas of dried figs, hay, pine, pear, and rum on the nose. Look for notes of caramel, clover honey, mint, corn, as well as plenty of baking spice, walnut, and wood on the palate.
