About Calle 23 Blanco Tequila

Meet Sophie Decobecq, the French microbiologist who left her mark on the Mexican spirits scene. Running Calle 23, a proudly Mexican distillery, Sophie honed her craft in South Africa before bringing her expertise to Jalisco, where she creates tequilas that respect the region's culture and heritage. And would you believe it, the inspiration for the name came from simply looking at a sign across the street—'Calle 23'. However, as regards her drinks, Sophie's tequilas hold nothing sporadic about them but are a true testament to her dedication and expertise in distilling. One of the fine examples of her expert distilling is her Calle 23 Blanco Tequila—a virgin, un-aged, 100% agave tequila that embodies the true Jaliscan aroma with notes of spearmint, apples and layered herbaceous waves. Clocking in at 40% ABV, this Blanco baby was made fermented in stainless steel tanks and double distilled in pot stills with copper streamers, making it a commanding presence in the world of tequilas, with flavors unparalleled and fun unspoiled!

About Tequila

Although tequila has developed a bad reputation, there's more to the spirit than just shots on a Saturday night.

This traditional Mexican drink origins in the state of Jalisco when according to a local legend, lightning struck an agave cactus before the Nahua tribe drank its warm nectar. Behold, tequila.

Legally, tequila has to be made of 51% of Blue agave around the Jalisco region in Mexico. There are different types of tequila according to age - from the youngest representatives, blanco, reposado, and añejo, to the oldest extra añejo.
