About Código 1530 Ancestral Mezcal

Código 1530 is all about bringing tequila and mezcal from the cradle of famous Mexican spirits to the world. These hidden gems are found with families, who have been crafting spirits for generations in Mexico. Their Ancestral Mezcal was born of one such collaboration with a small village. The single-village expression was recently added to their lineup. It's produced in the San Juan del Rio region of Oaxaca from mature papalome agaves that are cooked in earthen ovens, hand-mashed, open-air fermented, and distilled using a clay pot still. Bottled at 86.2 proof, it's a sweet and earthy expression with notes of vanilla, tobacco, honey, and cantaloupe.

About Código 1530

For generations, Codigo 1530 Tequila remained a closely-guarded secret among Los Bajos' finest jimadores. The recipe for Código 1530 has been passed down and perfected for generations. The tequila is crafted using the time-honored customs and traditions of the Los Bajos region as well as the town of Amatitán, the birthplace of Tequila. Código 1530 is named after "Los Códigos," the pre-colonial old world codes and customs that shaped the town of Amatitán and the Los Bajos region.

Once known as the El Tequila Privado, "the private Tequila," the label has been introduced to the world for the very first time in 2016 by Federico "Fede" Vaughan, CEO & Co-Founder of Código 1530 and honorary custodian of its private recipe, and Co-Founder and Executive Chairman Ron Snyder, a longtime friend of Federico and seasoned business executive.

The Código 1530 range includes a Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, an Extra Añejo Tequila, and a Rosa.

About Mezcal

Mezcal is a distilled spirit made from roasted agave plants between two days and two weeks, which gives it a distinct smokey flavor.
What scotch is for whisk(e)y, mezcal is for tequila.

It can be made from different types of agave in different parts of Mexico, but most of it (60%) comes from the state of Oaxaca. Mezcal offers a large diversity of flavor profiles and ranges between 40 and 55% ABV.

The nose is sweet with honey, tobacco, and a distinct earthiness to it. Look for fruity notes of cantaloupe and cooked agave on the sweet palate with a touch of brine, minerality, and hazelnut. The finish is smooth with a touch of smoke.
