About Dark Door Spirits
Dark Door Spirits, a Tampa-based craft distillery on the west coast of Florida, was founded by Matthew Allen and Brandon Marshall. The name is an allusion to "that dark door at the bottom of the stairs or at the end of the alley" for opening one of their bottles should make you a little nervous. Nervous in a good way, like "you're a little afraid, but on the other side, you're really glad you did it because you're rewarded with an experience that really gets your senses firing."
Their mission is to break the glass ceiling and the spirits they are brewing up at Dark Door Spirits are unique and innovative in the truest sense of these words, hence the possible nervousness. Among their award-winning innovations, for example, is the Spirit of IPA, which is a whiskey blended with an IPA beer from Safety Harbor's Crooked Thumb craft brewery. Or, a gin infused with lavender and rose hips.
Since all of the founders have been employed in the hospitality industry at one point or another, they understood very well what it meant for everyone depending on it as the main source of income when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Wanting to give back to the community and help those in need, fifty percent of Dark Door Spirits profits from sales of Pandemic at the Disco will be donated to charitable organizations supporting the local hospitality industry, including the U.S. Bartender Guild COVID-19 relief fund. The concept of Pandemic at the Disco is an 'essential vodka' of a beautiful clean, crisp flavor, distilled from 100% grains, that can be enjoyed independently or in a cocktail.
As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin. It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.
By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.
On the nose, Dark Door Spirits Spirit of the Harvest Rye Whiskey really impresses with notes of cloves, black pepper, and allspice. The palate is inviting and offers flavors of cinnamon, vanilla, caramel, and cocoa, culminating in a warming finish with spicy notes.
