About Eagle Rare 17 Year Old 2020 Antique Collection Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Eagle Rare is an award-winning lineup of ultra-premium bourbons from Buffalo Trace that are aged 10 years and up, with each barrel carefully selected by hand for its exceptional traits. The 17-year-old Eagle Rare is released annually as part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. The bourbon was distilled from a sour mash of Kentucky corn, Minnesota rye, and North Dakota malted barley in 2002. It then spent more than 18 years in new, #4 char white oak casks in Warehouse P. The whiskey was bottled in 2020 at 101 proof in honor of the original Eagle Rare brand that was launched in 1974.

About Eagle Rare

The use of wooden barrels to store and transport liquids dates back to 2690 B.C., when ancient Egyptians during the Early Dynastic Period began replacing clay vessels with wooden casks in order to meet the demands of their sprawling civilization. The advantages of wooden barrels were evident — not only were they less fragile than clay vessels, but their cylindrical shape allowed them to be rolled rather than carried across short distances. As settlers along the Nile quickly realized, however, barrels made from wooden staves imparted a unique color and flavor profile to the liquids stored within.

About Bourbon

There are not many things more American than bourbon, and although most of it is produced in Kentucky, it can be produced all over the USA.
It must be made with at least 51% corn and bottled at 40% ABV or higher. So why not give this American classic a try?

The nose is fruity with ripe cherry, vanilla, baking spices, and prominent oak aromas. Look for caramel, dark fruit, spice, and coffee notes on the pleasantly sweet palate. The finish is long and oaky with hints of pepper, spice, herbs, and a touch of earthiness.
