About Glen Scotia
Situated in the heart of Campbeltown, Glen Scotia is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. The Scotch distillery was founded by the Galbraith family in 1832. In 2014, the petite facility was purchased by the Loch Lomond Group. The distillery is quite small scale, outfitted with two 12,000 and 16,000-liter stills, with distinctive onion shapes and horizontal lyne arms.
Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)
Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.
On the nose, Glen Scotia 25 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky really impresses with notes of coastal breeze, clove, and caramel. The palate is inviting and offers flavors of red apple, tangy orange peel, and vanilla syrup, culminating in a lingering sea salt finish with ground ginger notes.
