About Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Bourbon Whiskey
Jefferson’s Ocean Aged At Sea Bourbon started as an experiment with just 3 barrels of bourbon on Trey’s friend Chris Fischer’s OCEARCH ship. Trey wanted to discover what would happen if bourbon was matured first in American oak casks for approximately seven to eight years on land before moving the barrels on a ship and allowed to rest for another five to ten months at sea. At sea, the bourbon and oak casks are forced to mingle with each other as the ship rolls back and forth over the water. In addition, the temperature and barometric pressure fluctuations during the sea voyage cause the oak staves to expand and contract, and allow the bourbon to extract more of the tannins and flavor from the oak during its maturation. The salt air leaves its impact, too. The end result is a thick and dark bourbon with complex flavors that are reminiscent of other spirits. The black color and caramel flavors bring to mind a dark rum and the briny, savory taste from the sea air that reminds us of Islay Scotch. This is a true bourbon of incredible complexity. "This limited release whiskey aged beautifully," says Trey Zoeller, Jefferson’s founder, and master blender.

About Jefferson's
The principal author of the Declaration of Independence and one of the most illustrious founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson was elected the third President of the United States in 1800. During his tenure as President, Jefferson authorized the purchase of the Louisiana Territory, dispatched Lewis and Clark westward to explore the remainder of the continent, and repealed the Whiskey Excise Tax.
After Jefferson retired from public office in 1815, he often tended to the garden that he had cultivated at his Monticello estate. At the time, it was customary for wealthy farmers, including Jefferson, to make their own garden spirits. Each farmer's spirits were unique and reflected their personal tastes and the local terroir of their farm. Jefferson's Reserve Very Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey is crafted by Chet and Trey Zoeller in honor of Jefferson and his experimental nature. While the Zoellers were inspired by Jefferson, their roots can be traced back for generations deep into Kentucky's bourbon history.
There are not many things more American than bourbon, and although most of it is produced in Kentucky, it can be produced all over the USA. It must be made with at least 51% corn and bottled at 40% ABV or higher. So why not give this American classic a try?
Aroma of vanilla, caramel and burnt matches. Thick notes of butterscotch, vanilla, brown sugar, and salted caramel dominate the palate. Finish accented by sweet hints of citrus.
