In tribute to Louisiana and the vibrant spirit of Mardi Gras, the Kentucky Owl Mardi Gras XO Cask Limited Edition Kentucky Rye Whiskey is a truly unique rye expression. This 11-year-old Kentucky Owl Straight Rye undergoes an additional year’s rest in rare Bayou Rum XO casks, enhancing its character with a rich, sweet complexity. The whiskey opens with a nose of toasted rye, sweet butter, and warm spices, leading to a robust rye flavor enriched by hints of allspice and the subtle sweetness of Bayou Rum. A smooth finish of nutmeg leaves a lasting, festive impression.
As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.
By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.
