About Kujira Ryukyu 12 Year Old Single Grain Whisky
Kujira Ryukyu 12 Year Old Whisky is crafted at the Kumesen distillery on the Ryukyu Islands, Japan. The single-grain Japanese whisky is distilled from long-grain Indica rice that ferments with the help of black koji ― a type of mold that is used in sake and soy sauce production. The whisky matures for 12 years in sherry casks exclusively, with the subtropical climate providing perfect conditions for maturation. Complex and balanced, it's a fruity and sweet expression that's produced in small batches, distilled, matured, and bottled at 80 proof right there at the distillery.

About KUJIRA
The Okinawa Prefecture is a tropical archipelago that was known as the Kingdom of Ryukyu from the 15th to the 19th century. It's there that the historical Shinzato Shuzo distillery lies. Founded in 1846, it's said to be the oldest distillery in Okinawa. Traditionally, Shinzato Shuzo are masters of vintage awamori (distilled rice spirit) and plum liqueurs. Today, the distilling is spearheaded by 7th generation distiller Naoya Shinzato, a young and passionate Master Blender who is taking traditional craftsmanship to a new level.
Although maybe not be the first Spirit you would think of when Japan is mentioned; the Japanese make one of the best types of whisky in the world. It’s heavily influenced by scotch but with smoother and delicate notes.
The history of the Japanese whisky is not even a century old, but in this short time, the Japanese blended and single malts have taken over the world by storm and can easily go against their whisk(e)y counterparts from across the globe.
The complex nose of this whisky is sweet and fruity with dark sugar and a touch of corn. The palate is equally fruity with berry, dark fruit, and dried fruit notes. There's a pleasant sweetness and a touch of oak throughout, culminating in a long finish.
