About Mijenta Tequila

Mijenta is an artisanal, small batch premium tequila carefully crafted in the Highlands of Jalisco. The brand, which launched its first expression, a blanco, in late August 2020, was created by Ana Maria Romero, a maestra tequilera with over 25 years of experience in the industry, who joined forces with the co-founder and lead investor Mike Dolan, a former CEO of Bacardi. Inspired by Mexico’s cultural heritage, Mijenta celebrates the best of the land and its people with a unique handmade spirit, crafted from the best possible ingredients and using a traditional process. Romero oversees the entire creation of the Mijenta tequila, from the selection of the fully mature agaves and the fermentation of their slow cooked hearts, to distillation in pot stills and bottling.

Mijenta is committed to environmental sustainability and supporting the local community. Its production adheres to the principles of the circular economy at all stages, from sustainable sourcing to responsible procurement practices, conscious packaging and land preservation. Mijenta’s labels are made of agave waste, and the packaging is locally produced and eco-certified, with bottles made from locally sourced stock glass. The brand is also closely connected with the people who make the tequila, and even its name Mijenta was inspired by the words mi gente (my people). In addition to creating jobs in the local community, Mijenta also provides educational opportunities for its team members and their families, and promotes the preservation and protection of traditional skills through a foundation.

About Tequila

Although tequila has developed a bad reputation, there's more to the spirit than just shots on a Saturday night.

This traditional Mexican drink origins in the state of Jalisco when according to a local legend, lightning struck an agave cactus before the Nahua tribe drank its warm nectar. Behold, tequila.

Legally, tequila has to be made of 51% of Blue agave around the Jalisco region in Mexico. There are different types of tequila according to age - from the youngest representatives, blanco, reposado, and añejo, to the oldest extra añejo.

The nose is delicate and inviting, with wafts of vanilla and notes of bergamot, honey, preserved fruits and orange blossom flowers. The rich palate has flavors of cooked agave, honey and vanilla with a mid-palate of cacao nibs. This finish is long and generous.
