About Ron Colón Salvadoreño Red Banana Oleo Rum

Ron Colón Salvadoreño Red Banana Oleo Rum was inspired by red banana trees that grow on the Jags Head Coffee Farms in El Salvador, providing shade for coffee cherries. The sweet bananas are somewhere between a plantain and yellow banana, with a touch of berry-like sweetness. While the idea for this expression started during the pandemic, when the Ron Colón team had a virtual drinking session, it wasn't until their drink ambassador Steph DiCamillo created a cocktail with Ron Colón Salvadoreño Dark Aged Rum, banana oleo saccharum, chocolate, and tiki bitters. This prompted the company to create their own version, the Red Banana Oleo Flavored Rum.

About Ron Colón Salvadoreño

Ron Colon was founded by two friends ― Thurman Wise and Pepijn Janssens ― after becoming enamored with El Salvador during a trip they took in 2018 to Latin America. The brand was named after El Salvador's former currency Colón, which in turn got its name from the discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus (Cristóbal Colón in Spanish). The brand soon expanded and the duo became a crew of 6 passionate individuals that is based in Los Angeles.

Both founders worked as bartenders and were fascinated by the country's sugar cane and coffee, both some of the highest quality in the world. They instantly began thinking about ways to combine them with rum, which is how Ron Colon Salvadoreno Coffee Infused Rum came to be.

About Rum

Rum history allegedly started in the Carribiens in the 17th century when they started to ferment and distill molasses, a byproduct of sugar production. Most of the Rum is aged in oak or ex-wine casks, giving its color and flavor.

We distinguish between 4 different Rum categories, where white or unaged rum is mainly used in cocktails, while dark, spiced, and añejo (aged) rum are mostly enjoyed neat.
