About Sagamore Spirit Sherry Finish Rye Whiskey

Rye whiskey runs deep in Maryland, where it was once the unofficial spirit of the state. Sagamore Spirit harkens back to those early days of Maryland distilling in the 1800s, paying homage to this era with a uniquely crafted spirit. Historically, Maryland rye whiskey has been much smoother than its Pennsylvanian and Kentucky counterparts, harboring creamy tastes and textures from the calcium-rich waters of Maryland limestone. Sagamore embraces this fact in its growing range of all-American rye whiskeys such as the Sherry Finish Rye Whiskey. First released as a Distillery Exclusive in 2019, the expression is now available globally. It starts as a 4-year-old straight rye that is transferred into Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for 18 months, resulting in a rich 106-proof spirit with notes of toasted almond, dried fig, and gentle spice.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.
