The Peat Smoked 7 Year Old Single Malt from the Glenturret distillery on mainland Scotland, is a wonderful single malt of great depth, a tremendous balance of flavor, and warm earthiness - in contrast to the maritime qualities we are used from the Scottish islands’ single malts. An absolute must-try.

About The Glenturret Peat Smoked 7 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

As the oldest distillery in Scotland (in their words, although there are more than one distilleries in Scotland that are claiming this title), the Glenturret has a rich history with peat - records show that The Glenturret dug peat from the mosses at their water source at the Octhertye Estate for whisky production as early as in the 1800s. Peaty whiskies have been featured heavily throughout the history of the Glenturret, with the distillery constantly using various sources of peat to produce the best peated single malts possible. The Glenturret is celebrating its peat-rich history and the rugged surroundings of the distillery with the amazing Peat Smoked 7-Year-Old Single Malt, the newest addition to its core range. This whisky has been matured for 7 years in a combination of American oak sherry-seasoned casks and smoky refill casks, enriching this single malt both with tender sweetness and an abundance of smoke. This is a rich, full-bodied, and amazingly balanced single malt, bottled at an ABV of 44%.

About Scotch

Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.)

Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt.

Initial notes of robust peat on the nose soon give space to aromas of salty almonds and candied oranges. The palate is rich and very earthy with notes of wood smoke, biscuity malt, butterscotch, and dried fruit. The long lingering finish brings in some oily notes of tobacco, charcoal, and spiced coffee.
