About Yellowstone Limited Edition 2022 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Every year since 2015, Limestone distillery from Kentucky releases a limited-edition bourbon where they do things a bit out of the ordinary: they switch the type of casks the bourbon is aged in, the blend of whiskies altogether, or their age. In 2022, the absolute star of the show was Marsala Superiore. You might know Marsala as an excellent cooking wine, but it has so much more to give. This sweet and tangy fortified wine is made by firstly distilling it and then adding it back into the barrel to increase the amount of total alcohol - which makes its casks ideal for barrel aging. So for a 2022 limited edition Yellowstone Kentucky straight bourbon, a delicately balanced blend of a 7-year-old, 15-year-old, and 16-year-old bourbon, selected by master blenders was finished in Marsala casks, giving this blend a unique imprint of tangy flavors of dried fruits and citrus. Sweet, smooth, and rich, this Yellowstone was bottled at an ABV of 50.5%. It is best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water.

About Yellowstone

Yellowstone National Park was established in 1876 and just a few short years later, the Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey brand would emerge with an equally-rich story. J.B. Dant, legendary distiller and the son of J.W. Dant, first began distilling in the late 1800s, using a "log still" instead of the more popular — yet more expensive — copper pot stills. A log still is made by hollowing out a tree trunk and lining the interior with copper pipes, a cheaper yet still effective way of distilling.

As Dant’s Yellowstone brand gained popularity in Kentucky, he was able to purchase other nearby distilleries and formalize his process. In the early 1900s, it was through this expansion that Dant began working more closely with M.C. Beam of the illustrious Beam family. Together, Dant and Beam operated their network of facilities as the Yellowstone Distillery and continued to produce Yellowstone Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey for "medicinal purposes" throughout Prohibition.

Although the Yellowstone brand changed hands several times throughout the 20th century (first to Diageo and recently to Luxco) and eventually fell out of favor, Luxco, along with the Beam family’s new Limestone Branch Distillery, has recently revitalized the brand, unearthing an old Beam family recipe and partnering with Paul and Steve Beam to create a spectacular bourbon that pays homage to the original.

About Bourbon

There are not many things more American than bourbon, and although most of it is produced in Kentucky, it can be produced all over the USA.
It must be made with at least 51% corn and bottled at 40% ABV or higher. So why not give this American classic a try?

The nose is greeted with notes of grapes, pears, melted candies, and buttercream frosting. On the palate, there are notes of caramel, nut butter, sweet marsala, dried fruits, oak, and leather. The finish is long with hints of chocolate and salty caramel.
